Tizen finally lands on the Samsung Galaxy Gear

We knew it was coming , Samsung has finally banished Android from its Galaxy Gear range of smartwatches. The company have finally started to push out the complete update to replace Android with its own grown OS called Tizen which will bring a few extra features like better battery life and the ability to store music on the Gear locally. Some features on new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo that don’t require specialized hardware (like the heart rate monitor) have also been backported to the Galaxy Gear.

The update is only available via Kies but it probably won’t be long until an OTA becomes available too. As you’d expect, you’re going to lose all of your data and settings due to this being a complete rebuild of a new OS but hopefully the new lease of life and features will soften the blow.
