Tag Heuer’s first smartwatch could be Intel-powered

The idea of traditional watch-makers, like Tag Heuer, getting into the smartwatch game has come as no surprise. Especially when you consider how unrelenting they have become when it comes to removing “custom” watch faces for apps like Facer and the customization community. However, where the traditional watch-makers may get it right, is in regards to design and functionality. I’m not necessarily stating the there are things that are wrong with the smartwatch world right now, but there could stand a new wave of design changes.

On top of design changes, the actual mechanics of the smartwatch, have been a little less than stellar, and a familiar name could get the ball rolling. It’s being rumored that Tag Heuer’s first foray into the smartwatch world will be powered by the brains of an Intel chip. This isn’t surprising from Intel’s standpoint, considering the fact that they have already started making their investments in the smartwatch world, with the MICA smart bracelet. However, what is surprising is that there hasn’t been a high-end smartwatch powered with anything like an Intel processor.

Currently, by spec-standards, the brains of smartwatches have been a bit underwhelming, even though long term usage still has yet to really be seen in regards to Android Wear. However in terms of design, Tag Heuer could inspire more companies to release a product similar to what the Moto 360 and the ASUS Zen Watch have done in terms of how beautiful those Android Wear devices look.

Tag Heuer really has a chance to make a splash in the market. Whether this Intel-based Tag Heuer smartwatch gets announced at CES 2015, or at the Baselworld International Watch Show as previously announced, it’s going to get interesting in the smartwatch world. All we can do is keep our eyes to the skies, or our wrists, and wait to see what is coming to the world of smartwatches. Maybe, just maybe, a company like Tag Heuer can shake things up a bit.
