The Samsung Gear S, Samsung’s latest foray into the smartwatch world while also providing the first standalone 3G experience, was released Friday. Also Friday, Verizon announced their pricing and availability for this Star Trek like device.
The Samsung Gear S is available now through Verizon Wireless’ website, as well as their brick and mortar locations for $349.99 with a new two-year agreement. The device is available in Black and White, and Verizon Wireless customers will be able to add the Samsung Gear S to their existing accounts for an additional $5 monthly access fee.
In terms of what the Gear S is running under that curved screen, the Gear S features a 2-inch 480×360 display, 4GB of internal storage, and a 300 mAh battery. Samsung also built a 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM into the newest wearable. As noted before, the Gear S is also capable of making/receiving phone calls, emails and sms messages without needing to have your smartphone.
Only time will tell whether the Samsung Gear S brings in a new wave of 3G capable wearables to the mass market.
