Samsung adding fingerprint scanner to next watch, report says

Samsung has recently been taking strides alongside Apple into the fingerprint revolution. One of the most hyped features on both the iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy S5 was the fingerprint sensor imbedded into the home button which allows for easy unlocking.

Going a step farther, Samsung has allowed apps, such as the standard PayPal app, to take advantage of the biometric sensors of the GS5. Instead of inputting a pin or username-password combination, it’s a small finger swipe to log into the app. Next is the watch.

Apple introduced NFC into its Apple Watch earlier this month as a method of autonomous payment. New information coming from Korea suggests that Samsung is planning on continuing its line of popular Gear watches, this time with the added benefit of a fingerprint scanner. Samsung is also cooperating with PayPal again, to work specifically with the fingerprint sensitive watch.

What’s your opinion of mobile payments in a watch? Is this something that matters to you or makes you think twice about the next smartwatch?
