Battery life is a pain point on most smartwatches and can often be the deal-breaker that makes what could be an amazing smartwatch a royal flop. However, Jonney Shih, chariman of Asus, dropped some hints about the upcoming ZenWatch.
He said that the upcoming smartwatch from Asus was being designed to last up to 7 days on a single charge, which will be achieved not through a bigger battery but instead through energy saving efficiencies.
“As a companion device, its central processing unit and operating system should be more simplified than the current version, so that I can use it for up to seven days on one charge, rather than for just two days.” – Jonney Shih, Asus
He did mention a simplified operating system that could suggest their move away from Android Wear, which would quantify the extended battery life claim when other Android Wear manufacturers are struggling to get past 2 days.
