Before smartwatches and other wearables were all the rage, the Pebble smartwatch was blazing a new trail. Pebble recently announced that they shipped their millionth smartwatch on New Years Eve, reaching a milestone few would have predicted. While major players like Apple, Google, Samsung and others have jumped into the segment, Pebble has continued to carve out it’s own niche. While Pebble has found some success their smartwatch has grown a bit long in the tooth, but it sounds like we could be seeing some new stuff from Pebble soon.
Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky recently dropped some hints about what the future could hold for Pebble. While he didn’t offer many details, the CEO did say, “It doesn’t look like what we have today, and it doesn’t look like what’s on your smartphone.”
Pebble has come a long way from their Kickstarter campaign that launched the company into the public eye. It will be interesting to see what Pebble comes up with next, there can be no doubt that whatever it is will be up against significant competition. Google and their partners will soon be offering their second, third and fourth generation smartwatches, while Apple will have their smartwatch hitting the market in the next few weeks. Even though Pebble will be up against some heavy weight competition, it will be hard to count them and their experience out. However, we’ll have to wait until later this year to see what Pebble has up it’s sleeve.
