New Microsoft wearable device on the horizon

Forbes announced today that Microsoft will release a new, cross platform wearable device within a few weeks.

The Microsoft wearable device claims a 2-day battery life, and will passively track heart rate.

Microsoft is trying to get the device into stores shortly after launch, presumably in time for the holiday shopping season. However, if you follow hardware releases from Microsoft in the past, you know that when they rush these things, bad things tend to happen.

Forbes first reported in May that Microsoft was working on a smart watch that drew on optical engineering expertise from its Kinect division, and which would sync with iPhones, Android devices and Windows Phones. It is unclear what Microsoft will name the device, or what it will cost at retail.

Details like actual release date and price are not yet available.

Microsoft is wise to go cross platform. Trying to lock users into Microsoft only devices hasn’t worked since the late 90’s.
