Are Microsoft thinking of making a smartwatch?

If a new patent that Microsoft have filed is anything to go by then the answer is yes. Published last week, the US Patent & Trademark Office issued a patent to Microsoft which reveals their smartwatch.

The patent revolves around a product that seems to be focused on sporting enthusiasts that can pair with apps in order to retrieve information such as heart rate and calories burnt etc. What’s interesting is that the core of the smartwatch can be ejected and inserted into any future fitness equipment, which suggests some sort of modular component.

It seems that watch this space is very much appropriate here.
