LG G Watch previewed in LG G3’s announcement
While LG were busy parading their new flagship phone to the world, another very anticipated device got some airtime, too. The forthcoming LG G Watch was previewed by the Korean manufacture alongside the LG G3; the pair seem to be the perfect match with their minimalistic designs.
Being the first Android Wear powered smartwatch to launch by the end of June and possibly in time for a Google I/O announcement. If ready by then it won’t just be tied into the LG G3. The G Watch will be compatible with all Google powered handsets running Android 4.3 and above, just like its Moto 360 Rival which is expected to launch soon after the G Watch.
LG’s design is what you would expect a smartwatch to look like, a functional square format with a sleek metal body, and the whole watch looks stunning in its black or white colour options but is it better than a traditional round watch design, only time will tell.
An always-on screen which is expected to be a 1.65-inch IPS LCD screen with a 280 x 280p resolution is a big deal for the G Watch and should make all those Google Now notifications easily visible so you wont miss a thing. LG is probably hoping that this will also be a stand-out feature of its watch, it definetly is at the moment compared to the Samsung Gear and Neo.
LG have also thought about the more day-to-day wear of the watch by making it water and dust resistant, something that you most probably would not consider on a smartwatch but it means that you won’t have to worry if it got splashed or dropped at the beach.
So one thing that is rumoured and could set the watch apart from the others is its possible 3G connectivity, it may seem a little pointless to have this if you are paring it to your phone but having the ability to function independently and still pop up Google now notifications could be an interesting feature.
Pricing for the G Watch has not been announced as yet but it is expected to be £180 in the UK or $299 in the US.
Let’s hope that we finally see this eagerly awaited smartwatch announced at Google I/O with a launch date either the same day or soon after.
