Face it, the wearable industry is about to get real crowded by the end of the year/early next year. We’ve got Samsung and Pebble already off to a head start, Qualcomm is a newcomer to the game, LG and Motorola to launch high-end smartwatches in the summer, Apple to release an iWatch this fall (hopefully?), HTC is expected to launch a watch this fall and now Lenovo has expressed interest in wearables, with President of their mobile division Liu Jun stating their wearable device should launch by the end of this year or next year.
Lenovo has had its eyes on the wearable industry for a while now, but has merely observed where it is going. Jay Parker, President of Lenovo America, said that while wearables may not be a mainstream product in the next couple years, Lenovo is “interested to see where is goes and what we can do with that.”
It is likely that when Lenovo does decide to launch their product, it will be for the Asian region only. A smart move, I’d say, considering they now have a way to reach the American markets with the newly acquired Motorola, and the highly anticipated Moto 360 smartwatch.
