Here are our favorite smartwatches from CES 2016
CES 2016 has come and gone and left us with a bevy of product announcements. Wearable technology is becoming an increasingly crowded space with companies like Fossil and TAG Heuer joining the ranks of Samsung, Motorola and others offering Android Wear smartwatches. Here are some of our favorite smartwatches we saw at CES 2016.
Fossil Q54 Pilot
Building on the recently announced Q line of wearables, Fossil will be launching the Q54 Pilot in early spring. The Pilot isn’t a standard smartwatch. It doesn’t run Android Wear. The Pilot is, however, an analog watch with Intel inside. This will allow the Pilot to keep its classic looks, but offer owners basic notifications for things like calls and messages and activity tracking. While the functionality is limited compared to full smartwatches, you will be getting a beautiful analog watch that keeps you informed.
The Fossil Q54 will launch in Spring 2016 and run about $200 depending on what strap you choose.
Casio WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch
Iconic watch maker Casio is finally entering the smartwatch race wit the WSD-F10, a smartwatch for the outdoorsy type. The WSD-F10 is headlined by its shock and vibration resistance that meets military standards, as well as water resistance up to 50 meters. Casio has included a compass, a pressure sensor, gyrometer, and an accelerometer that will help to power Casio’s own activity and sports tracking apps. The WSD-F10 will also come pre-loaded with apps for GPS tracking, weather and runkeeper, which will track various activities.
The Casio WSD-F10 watch will run you a cool $500 and be out in April. You can read much more about the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch here.
Fitbit Blaze
Popular fitness tracking company Fitbit is releasing their first real smartwatch. The Fitbit Blaze will work with your Android phone but is not an Android Wear device. Instead, Fitbit decided to go with their own OS that will work with over 200 iOS, Android and Windows devices. The Fitbit Blaze will focus on fitness tracking and helping you work out but will still display information like your incoming calls and messages. Fitbit decided to try and strike a balance of their fitness trackers and smartwatches with the Blaze. While there are drawbacks, Fitbit seems to know how to make quality products so our hopes are high for the Blaze.
The Fitbit Blaze is available for pre-order right now and will be released on March 1. It’ll run you $200.
Alcatel CareTime
Does your child need their own smartwatch? Well the Alcatel CareTime might be right for you! Just kidding. The CareTime is a smartwatch for your kids, but it is more about keeping track of them than giving them a smartwatch experience. If you want to keep track of your kids without buying them a phone, all you need to do is pick up the Alcatel CareTime, add it to your data plan and track away. If there’s ever an emergency, your child can press one button to call for help. The CareTime will also let you set a certain area where your child is supposed to stay and alert you if they leave the area.
The Alcatel CareTime will be coming out in Europe in April and come to the US by the end of 2016. It’ll you about $120 for the watch plus your monthly data plan access fee.
Razer Nabu
Rounding out our list is the latest wearable for Razer. The Nabu watch is more of a watch that has smart features rather than a smartwatch. The Nabu Watch has a digital watch that can do things like start and stop timers and stopwatches, and tell the time as well as a second smaller screen that will deliver information from social networks as well as let you know when you’re receiving a call or text. The Nabu watch is built to take a licking and keep on ticking, it has tough polycarbonate materials and a more expensive version will have stainless steel buttons and a premium black finish.
You can pick up the Razer Nabu Watch for $150 with the Forged Edition running $50 more at $200. They’ll both be available by the end of January. You can read more about the Razer Nabu Watch here.
