Google discussing ads on wearables

Google’s main source of income is advertising, we all know that. Well Google recently published a document which points to ads on wearable devices.

We’ve all feared this, I know I have. It’s one thing to have ads popping up on a 20+” screen or even a 5″ screen of a smartphone, but ads on smartwatches, smartglasses, smartbands, etc.? Yeah, I know, doesn’t really sound good, now does it. Well, we’re just gonna have to deal with, it was just a matter of time when we’re going to see ads on wearables considering how fast that market is going and it seems Google is totally invested in finding a way to deliver them.

In a statement to SEC Google is trying to make a case why they should be able to advertise everywhere, considering that mobile devices are a big part of our lives these days. Here’s the whole statement:

We expect the definition of ‘mobile’ to continue to evolve as more and more ‘smart’ devices gain traction in the market. For example, a few years from now, we and other companies could be serving ads and other content on refrigerators, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses, and watches, to name just a few possibilities.

Nobody likes ads but they’re coming. Wearables market is getting bigger and bigger day in day out and considering Android Wear and iWatch are on the way this was completely expected. We don’t know how soon just yet, but I’d it won’t be long now, I just hope that Google will find a way to deliver those ads in a rather non-obtrusive way, because it would be extremely annoying if ads would pop up next to your eyeball while you’re using Google Glass, now wouldn’t it? What do you think about all this?
