Glass lead engineer leaves for Oculus Rift

Aaron Wong, Google Glass’s lead engineer has left the company for the development of Oculus Rift. While this may seem like a simple transition, it also marks the beginning of Facebook attempting to rival Google in the wearable augmented-reality industry.

The move by Facebook to purchase Oculus was one of the most shocking events this year and many were confused as to why the social-network giant would bother in this category. Mark Zuckerberg says the move to buy Oculus is part of a long-term goal to bring virtual, simulated experiences to people across the world, including virtual socializing and training of various situations. While I believe this is definitely possible with the resources Facebook has, it’s obviously a move to compete against Google Glass in the wearable industry.

Aaron Wong left Google after fives years of service there and carried with him 10 patents of Glass, which will likely benefit Oculus. Google has also recently hired Ivy Ross, a former chief marketing officer at Art.com to become the head of the Glass division. Her role will begin at Google May 19th
