Fossil debuts Q Founder, its first Android Wear device

Watchmaker Fossil today formally introduced its first Android Wear-powered wearable, the Q Founder. Slated to arrive “just in time for the holiday shopping season”, the watch will carry a starting price tag of $275. With both a leather and a more premium steel link variant in the pipeline we might also anticipate something above $300, too.

The Q Founder features an Intel processor, something not found in other Android Wear models. It’s not clear how this impacts performance however we should know more in the coming weeks. The upcoming Android Wear watch from Tag Heuer is also expected to pack one of the mobile processors.

There have been reports that Fossil’s watch will employ the “flat tire” black bar across the bottom of the display; however, the press imagery doesn’t make that distinction either way. We’ll need to wait for more photos or details to surface.

The Q Founder comes with a proprietary Fossil app which serves multiple functions.

  • Q Activity: This built-in fitness tracker lets you know how many calories you burned and also provides results in a curious way to make your activities a bit more fun. No need to ditch your favorite fitness apps; this tracker can connect seamlessly to Google Fit™, Health, UP by Jawbone® and UA Record™ by Under Armour.
  • Q Notifications: These notifications are your cue that a social media update, important call or meeting awaits. Filter by just the contacts or apps you care about – or get them all. It’s up to you.
  • Q Curiosity: Cue your curiosity! These notifications alert you that it’s time to break free from routine, look from a different angle or try something new in your community. These activities will ignite a new perspective, open up your creativity and leave your brain feeling refreshed.
