FitBit Charge and Charge HR outlined in patent filing
FitBit has been quiet, too quiet. The company was all over the interwebs last year when they released the FitBit Force. Then they made a big splash when that same device was recalled. Since then that have been dormant. A recent patent filing indicates, however, that FitBit has been working on something new.
The FitBit Charge and Charge HR are the next products coming from FitBit.
The patent information describes what the new devices will be for:
Pedometers; altimeters; scales and personal weighing scales; multifunctional electronic devices for displaying, measuring, and uploading to the Internet information including time, date, steps taken, calories burned, distance travelled, floors climbed, active time, elevation, altitude, speed, pace, hours slept, quality of sleep, silent wake alarm, heart rate, routes, navigational information, and weather information; multifunctional electronic devices that link to mobile phones to control volume and notify users of incoming calls or messages; computer software for wireless data communication for receiving, processing, transmitting and displaying information relating to fitness, body fat, body mass index; computer software for managing information regarding tracking, compliance and motivation with a health and fitness program
Details were limited at first, but recent reports have pretty much confirmed the FitBit Charge and Charge HR are coming, and coming soon.
It would seem FitBit is making a massive upgrade to the FitBit Force. Although styling will stay similar to previous FitBit fitness bands, the functionality will be vastly improved. Most notably, with the addition of navigational information, notifications, and a heart rate monitor on the FitBit Charge HR.
Early leaks indicate the FitBit Charge will run $189 and the Charge HR, $220. A bit high, but if the devices do what FitBit claims they will do, then it might be worth the price.
Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
