Following on from Google’s announcement that Glass is available to buy without invitation, they have now teamed up with two optometry offices in California to sell the wearable device direct to the public.
Wink optometrist in Calabasas and Optometrix in Brentwood are letting customers try out google Glass and have it mounted on traditional looking prescription frames.
Back in January Google launched the Titanium collection range of frames for Glass after numerous complaints about the lack of prescription frames for people who needed to use their Glass device day-to-day , but these could only be brought direct from Google. The move to offer Glass through an optometrist allows customers to try on Glass with the expert advice from a professional on how it can work with their prescription, rather than just buying the frames online.
Bringing Glass to the high street optometrist is great experiment for Google as it promotes the potential of the device but could also provide valuable information on how well Glass could sell in a retail environment when fully launched.
