Blocks, the modular smartwatch, is taking pre-orders

Although it looks like Blocks has been around for awhile, this is the first I’ve heard of them.  If you’re like me and haven’t heard of Blocks here is a short run-down.  Basically Blocks has created a modular smartwatch.  You can pick the display you want (circle, square, rectangle) and then plug extra pieces into it.  If you want a fitness oriented smartwatch, then add GPS, a heart-rate monitor, etc.  If you just want something to handle message notifications, you could choose wifi or a 3G module.  I have to admit, it is a fascinating concept, I can’t wait to see the finished product.

If you are particularly excited for Blocks, on October 16 you can spend $50 to preorder yours.  This $50 will count towards your future Blocks purchases and insure that you get early-bird pricing, which is the best deal possible.  It sounds like the core Block will cost between $120-150.  The core Block includes the touchscreen display, microprocessor and a Bluetooth chip.  Other Blocks will cost between $20-40 depending on their function.  With funding from Intel, this is a company that should be able to put together a great product.
