Blackberry has plans for a smartwatch
Loyal Blackberry customers can now sing and dance as Blackberry President of Enterprise Solutions John Sims stated earlier that the company is internally researching a smartwatch. Keep the dancing slow, however, as this only means the company is testing the idea of building a smartwatch, and may never go through with it. Along with a smartwatch, the company is researching a headset as well. Sims oversees BlackBerry’s BBM messenger service, and added, “I would love to have…BBM on a wearable,” he said. “It’s definitely an area of research for us.”
For those of you who don’t know, Blackberry is in real trouble nowadays, with less than 1% of smartphone sales going to them and a further decline in market share continues. Their Z3 smartphone will be aimed at more affordable markets outside the US in February. There’s also the much anticipated Blackberry Passport smartphone which will have a 4.5 inch screen and keyboard.
It may be awhile until we hear anything else regarding Blackberry’s wearable plans, but until then, stay tuned.
